Work is now underway on Hennepin County’s Interchange Project, a multi-modal transportation hub and community gathering space that will open in 2014 next to Target Field.

Hennepin County’s Environmental Services Building has been demolished and site clearing activity continues.  The eastbound lane of Sixth Avenue North will be closed for approximately one year from the intersection of Seventh Street North to Fifth Street North. This lane will become a protected walkway for pedestrians walking past the construction site.

“After almost two years of planning and discussion, it is exciting to see progress on the site,” said the MBA’s Executive Director Dan Kenney, who also served on the Selection Panel that recommended the Knutson/EE&K Design Build team to Hennepin County.  “This project will not only enhance the transit system and create a wonderful new public gathering space — it will also allow us to address the existing pedestrian environment just beyond the ballpark to create better connections for residents, workers, and visitors in this emerging area of downtown.”
